Image cropping removes pixels from the edges of a photo to reframe or resize the composition. Unlike resizing (which scales the whole image), cropping cuts — pixels inside the crop box stay exactly as they are, and pixels outside are discarded. Quality is never reduced.
For social media, use the right aspect ratio: 1:1 for Instagram feed, 4:5 for Instagram portrait, 9:16 for Reels/Stories, 16:9 for YouTube, and 1.91:1 for Facebook posts. This tool handles all of them with drag-to-crop precision.
Aspect Ratios — What to Use When
Different platforms expect different shapes. Use these preset ratios as a starting point:
| Ratio | Shape | Best For | Common Pixels |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1:1 | Square | Instagram feed, profile avatars, product photos | 1080 × 1080 |
| 4:5 | Portrait | Instagram portrait feed (takes up more vertical space) | 1080 × 1350 |
| 9:16 | Tall portrait | Instagram Story/Reel, TikTok, YouTube Shorts | 1080 × 1920 |
| 16:9 | Wide landscape | YouTube thumbnails, video frames, banners | 1920 × 1080 |
| 4:3 | Classic landscape | Traditional photography, digital camera default | 1600 × 1200 |
| 3:2 | Wide landscape | DSLR default, most photo prints (4×6", 6×9") | 1800 × 1200 |
